Your donated car, truck or mini-van will help change lives at Teen Challenge!

For the past 10 years, Teen Challenge has been operating a car donation program, whereby you can donate your used car, truck or mini-van (and other assets too!) and receive a fair market value tax receipt for your vehicle donation.

Teen Challenge is doing a great work right across Canada reaching out to young people and adults who are struggling with life-controlling drug and alcohol problems to give them a new start in life again. One way your can help Teen Challenge go forward is by donating your used vehicle!

And what happens to these donated vehicles? Teen Challenge picks them up right at your door (ah, convenience!) evaluates each vehicle as to its condition and how it should be processed and used. Some of course are sold to recyclers, simply because they are 'at the end of the road'. Some are culled to use for transportation needs at Teen Challenge, while others are refurbished in our car shops and resold to help raise funds for our work running Teen Challenge centres across Canada.

If you're considering buying a new or newer vehicle this fall, why not donate your older vehicle to Teen Challenge? More lives will be changed at Teen Challenge because of your monthly support

Last year was a 'banner year' with over 75 young men and women (and some older ones too!) who graduated from our centres!

This represents another milestone - an ever growing volume of graduates year-over-year. Certainly all the thanks goes to the Lord - He is the only one can who permanently change lives!

But thanks also goes to a great team of staff, volunteers and donors, who without their sacrifices and tireless efforts, these good things would not be possible.

In addition to these good things, it's encouraging to know that more graduates than ever are pursuing post secondary education and going on to be doctors, dentists, bio-chemists, pastors and many other worthy endeavours. One graduate recently told me that he wants to pursue bio-chemistry to understand DNA better and to launch a 'creationist ministry' one day. Some great goals indeed!

Of course, all these good things are only possible because people cared enough to give.

One of the best and most convenient ways to help change a life at Teen Challenge is through monthly sponsorship. For only $35 per month you can help change a life -- forever! And when you join as a sponsor, we'll send you the actual photo of the Teen Challenge student (guy or girl) you're sponsoring. You'll also receive regular 'progress updates' to help you keep track of how your sponsored 'student' is doing. And you also have the opportunity to personally speak into their life by sending a card of encouragement to your sponsored student at Teen Challenge, as they work their way through the 12 month program. This includes sending a note on Easter, Christmas and pretty much any time of year you wish.

We need to encourage our leaders!

Someone once said, 'everything rises and falls on leadership'. Today, there's a leadershp crisis in our land - underscoring the fact that we desperately need good leaders more than ever today!

At the same time, its hard being in leadership and our leaders desperately need our encouragement to help them in their daily duties and responsibilities.

We all know how good it is to receive an encouraging word from soneone! And of course, its true that 'oxygen is to the body is what encouragement is to the soul'.

If you believe in the importance of good leadership, I encourage you to call or email a leader in your area (and especially a Teen Challenge director in your region!) and let them know 'you appreciate them!'. And, if you believe in prayer, be sure to tell them you're praying for them too!

I’m convinced that those who change the world, who make a difference in history, who live life rather than simply watch it, have at least one common characteristic among them...they do something for God! They don’t just watch; they don’t just think or talk about it; they act.

Take a moment this week and act. Pick up the phone and call a leader or two and let them know you are praying for them. And that you appreicate them too. I know they'll be blessed because you did.

National Teen Challenge Choir to tour throughout Alberta in April 2010

For over 30 years, a group of young men (and older ones too) who are current students at various Teen Challenge centres across Canada have been coming together twice a year to tour across Canada under the banner of The National Teen Challenge Choir.

Singing and sharing their unique high energy music (with a live band) and dramatic first person testimonies of freedom from drug addiction, you'll find them each night of the tour at churches, schools and other venues with an exciting 90 minute presenation for people of all ages.

This year's National Teen Challenge Choir will be coming together to tour Alberta to help raise awareness and support for the ministry of Teen Challenge Alberta. Venues will include Calgary, Edmonton and many points in between -- and on some nights with special guest and well known Canadian author and humorist, Phil Callaway speaking!

Bring a friend, your family or someone in need for an amazing night of music, humor and amazing testimonials of freedom from drug addiction -- through the power of God's love!

Thanks to your support, good things are happening at Teen Challenge!

I have just returned from an extensive trip visiting Teen Challenge centres in Atlantic Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan and am happy to report that God is at work changing lives and setting the captives free - right across the nation!

In Atlantic Canada, as a result of the generosity of youth groups in the Greater Moncton Area, young people raised funds to help purchase a new much-needed tractor and snow blower! Cudo's to the young people in each church who raised funds to help purchase this equipment!

In Saskatchewan, the men's centre celebrated the graduation of four young and older men who completed the 12 month program. At the graduation, each one stood and testified how the power of the Lord has set them free. Many TC grads from years gone by attended as an expression of support. Additionally, the audience was packed with monthly sponors and donors who came to show their support for the young men in our care and those graduating.

In Alberta, great plans are underway for the National Teen Challenge choir to visit Alberta April 7-26 touring churches and auditoriums to raise awareness and support for this ministry. More information will be available March 1, 2010 at http://www.teenchallengechoir.ca/

Suffice it to say, without the generous faithful support of so many friends of Teen Challenge coast to coast, we would not be able to do all that we do to help each person in our care. Thanks all our friends, lives are being changed and transformed for eternity!

Christmas at Teen Challenge centres across Canada

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It was another very nice Christmas day at the Teen Challenge centres across Canada. For most students (residents) in our care, it was the very first Christmas most can remember where they have been 'sober, clean from drugs and starting to feel healed and whole again'.

This is all thanks to the Lord's life-giving power in each life - and also thanks to so many friends for their generosity helping us year after year. Special thanks goes out to friends, churches, small businesses and others who donated new clothing and other practical gifts to help us assemble a nice gift bag for each student. The smiling photos at two of our centres tell the story about a wonderful heart-change taking place in each life - and their thankfulness to the Lord and friends of Teen Challenge for what many have done to help out.

The New Year will bring many more young men, women and adults through our doors, each seeking an answer to their life-controlling drug and alcohol problem. Thankfully we can offer them much more than a program; we offer them a personal relationship with a living God who really can give hope, healing and deliverance to each life in need!

Teen Challlenge continues to be totally dependent on the gifts of friends to help us provide quality care, training and curriculum for each student in our care.

Yesterday I was privileged to participate in a service near downtown Toronto where both our men's choir and our ladies from the Teen Challenge GTA women's centre also sang! What a wonderful sight to see lives being changes through the ministry of Teen Challenge! Evangel Temple in Toronto, the host church for this Sunday morning outreach, has been a huge supporter helping us get our women's centre open just north of Toronto. A great team effort indeed! It will be interesting to see what the Lord has in store for Teen Challenge in the GTA in the years to come... and also for Evangel Temple, under the leadership of their new pastor and old friend, Pastor Gary Beesley.

Welcome all! This is my first blog-post.... so here goes!

Attending church today, I heard a good comment about the ministry of Teen Challenge here in Canada. The speaker (not verbatim) said, 'when was the last time we saw addicts and prostitues coming into church and worshipping God?' 'That's why its so great to see the guys from Teen Challenge here each week'. I know this type of comment blesses the heart of God -- but also blesses my heart as well.

The question I was left with was, 'what more can we do to reach out to marginalized people in our communities?' A big question to lift before the Lord in prayer. Indeed.
